The Seahawks were ripped off at Super Bowl XL !!!

Early in the game, it seemed like business as usual. The Seahawks moved down the field toward Pittsburgh's goal line. Matt Hasselbeck executed plays with precision. The Pittsburgh defensive line was tough as expected, but the Seahawks completed several passes. The plays begin to mix up and create success. Then a penalty was called against the Seahawks. A ball was dropped. The momentum was lost. Pittsburgh had the ball, but they went nowhere with it. Apparently, the Seahawks defense had been under-estimated. OK, the Seahawks begin to move the ball again. Hasselbeck is in the zone. The ball moves down the field. A touch-down pass to Darrell Jackson!

What? A penalty call? Then instant replay shows the call to be questionable. The Seahawks kick for a field goal instead of a well deserved touch-down. Things slowly got worse, but the theme stayed the same. Every time Seattle made a big play, the men in black and white would throw a penalty flag and take it away. On the other hand, Pittsburgh made a few really big plays, that led to three touch-downs. Beyond these few big breaks, their offense was not that impressive. However, "the bus" was a force to reckon with. When Jerome Bettis had the ball, there was a lot of momentum moving down the field! Then there was that disputed TD run by Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger... sigh. Even Ben, has admitted openly to falling short of the goal line.

Coach Holmgren, after the game had these words to say: "We knew it was going to be tough going up against the Pittsburgh Steelers. I didn't know we were going to have to play the guys in the striped shirts as well."

I heard someone say that we should declare "open season" on zebras. I agree. At least until the kind of calls we saw at Super Bowl XL are put to rest for good.
